Behind the Scenes of Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 6 “Motel California”

When the cast of Teen Wolf checks in to episode 6 of Season 3, Motel California, they’ll be checking in to a bit of Hollywood history. So it’s more like a “Hollywood Adjacent” history but don’t quibble. The production spent a full night in February shooting episode 306 at The Motel Glen Capri on the border between Burbank and Glendale.

The location is in more movies and TV shows than you may realize as it seems anytime an LA production needs a “seedy motel” – they up at the Glen Capri. Get to watch Teen Wolf Season 3 online here in the niceseries.com where you can enjoy the full video for each episode.

So here are some photos that you may take look at and see if it’s familiar with you:

In real life the motel is significant due mainly to its architects. From the late 1940s through the mid 1960s the architectural firm of Armet & Davis dotted the Los Angeles landscape with a number of distinctive looking commercial buildings.

This style came to be known as Googie Architecture and is marked by “space age” shapes and the copious use of glass and neon. Think about the Jetsons’ neighborhood – that’s Googie. Most of our “movie memories” of the 1950s and early 1960s are filtered through these types of buildings because the style is instantaneously familiar as mid-century and creates a sense of time and place without too much set dressing.

It’s not clear from the few set pictures available just what Jeff Davis and crew were up to at the Glen Capri but its apparently pretty heavy stuff.

Recently we’ve seen Jeff explained in this exchange question and answer on the official Teen Wolf Tumblr –

Q: Have you ever had an idea for a storyline that was too dark to do on a teen show or got vetoed for some reason?

Jeff Davis: Actually I expected some push back from episode 306 which is called “Motel California” but didn’t get any. And it’s one of our darkest yet.

I guess the title is a warning of sorts. It's a riff on the Eagles' song "Hotel California" where "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave."

Now that’s really spooky. And this is the episode that all Teen Wolf Fans should watch out, ‘coz in this episode is where we get to see some of Dylan O’Brien’s writing skills since he and Davis wrote one of the scenes together.
